This fact is memorialized today by the sculpture of a turtle that still stands in Turtle Rock Community Park. This rocky area bears a similar shape to the front of a turtle’s exterior shell. This ledge was originally considered a sacred point for the Gabrieleño Native American tribes who lived in the area hundreds of years ago. All of these factors could be the intriguing reason that lurks behind the origin of the name “Turtle Rock.”
