The Dallas Cowboys, also known as America’s Team, are one of the most storied sports franchises in history. They are definitely one of the most valuable worth over $1.5 billion. Yet, what sets the Cowboys apart from other popular sport franchises like the Los Angeles Lakers or the New York Yankees is that the Cowboys have not been championship contenders in their sport for over a decade. Since their last championship, winning the Super Bowl in 1996, the Cowboys have only won two playoff games when they were able to make it to the postseason.

Still, people want to watch the cowboys game online. They are a popular draw on television, and have the tradition of playing on Thanksgiving. One can watch Dallas Cowboys online either through historical clips, interviews, and when available even games. In addition to people wanting to watch the Cowboys, people also buy a lot of merchandise adding to the team’s annual revenue. Those merchandise revenues is evidence that people want to be associated with them despite of their win-loss record. It seems that the Cowboys always have intriguing matchups from week to week. That’s why millions of fans each week will tune in to watch dallas vs seattle online in early season games.

The franchise has come a long way over the years, especially with the newly constructed dallas cowboys football stadium, but it had meager beginnings in 1960 when the city was awarded a NFL franchise. But, by the end of the 1960s and in the early 1970s the Dallas Cowboys were perennial championship contenders. But it was in the 1970s that the Dallas Cowboys made their largest strides to be called America’s Team. In the 1970s the Dallas Cowboys played in five Super Bowls and won two. Also, in the 1970s they played for the NFC championship every year of the decade except two. Texas Stadium was their home and had the unusual distinction having a football sized portion of the roof absent from what would have been dome stadium. It was all the winning of the 1970s that solidified the Dallas Cowboys as America’s Team.

While the 1980s were a fairly lean time for the Dallas Cowboys, they reemerged with new ownership and a new coach replacing the legendary Tom Landry. New owner Jerry Jones brought University of Miami head coach Jimmy Johnson to head up the Dallas Cowboys. After an initial slow start, the Dallas Cowboys dominated the 1990s and winning three Super Bowls. While that last win was in 1996, the Cowboys popularity has not diminished. That undying popularity can be evidenced by the 2009 opening of the Dallas Cowboys football stadium, now called Cowboys Stadium, built in Arlington, Texas at a cost of $1.3 billion. This was wildly optimistic as the Cowboys had not won a playoff game since 1996, even though the new stadium broke ground for new construction in 2005.

It is interesting to note that no other sports franchise in America beats the Dallas Cowboys as far value according to Forbes. And in the world only Manchester United in England is worth more as a sports team. The Cowboys are still looking to return to their winning ways but their continued popularity helps them generate over $250 million dollars a year in revenue. So, winning or losing, the Dallas Cowboy will be America’s Team for many years to come.
