Why use jars when preserving

When thinking about making preserves there are a few items a total beginner needs to purchase and there are multiple companies out there who sell them. Many of these have appeared due to the ‘grow your own’ phase, although alot are cheap imitations and won’t last longer than one year. One specific brand that originated in 1842 that has stood the test of time is Kilner Jam Jars. This company continues to produce brand new innovative products that all lesser companies wish to follow. The three most important items listed below are all part of the Kilner range and people always appreciate how great the products are, and how well they last.

The first of the three items a beginner is required to have is a pan, pans usually are created from stainless steel in this day and age, now traditionally they were created from copper. But due to the poor longevity and the fat prices of copper are now rising very high, stainless steel has now become alot more popular and commonly used. They also provide near identical results. In the vast majority of instances these days, stainless steel can be seen as more suitable, such as on induction hobs. Alot of professionals and long time cooks prefer to use stainless steel over any others. The second most important part of preserving is having a storage jar, which many refer to as a Kilner jar. These jars can come in many different sizes and shapes and forms, from clip tops to screw tops and from square edged to round edged. They can even come in ranges from ½ litres up to 3 litres.

The last item on the must buy list, and this one is absolutely necessary, is the funnel. Kilner has simple metal funnels readily available with wide mouths which allow anyone to pour their preserve easily and most importantly safely. This means you can transform the hot preserve to the jars themselves without having any spillages of the preserve you just spent alot of time picking and producing.

Outlined above are the three main items a beginner or even an advanced creator or preserves needs in order to make a great tasting preserve. This does not mean you can’t use other items as well in order to increase your offering or improve the taste of the preserve itself. All it takes is some imagination and trial and error and you can make some great tasting sterilising jam jars in the end. These three items are what a beginner needs but with them they can become a master at the art itself. Now you have read this guide, go out there, purchase these items and some fruit and get to creating some fantastic preserves.
