Why Plants Wilt
There are several challenges you need to face when growing, particularly when you have an indoor garden because your plants are entirely dependent on what you provide them. One of these obstacles is wilting.
The following are some of the reasons why plants wilt and some measures to control or avoid them.
1. The lack of water supply is the most usual reason why plants wilt. Obviously, the solution to this is to water your plants. But if you are into hydroponic systems, inspect water supply regularly to avoid such problem. Remember that plants in a container or pot dry out quicker than those planted in the open ground. In extreme cases of wilting, soak your potted plants in a bucket of water until air bubbles disappear.
2. Overwatering can also be a reason why plants wilt. This just means that too much or too little of everything is harmful for your plants. Regulate the water you give your plants especially when you are maintaining a garden indoors. Note that evaporation takes place in a slower pace indoors; so water your plants less than with your outdoor plants. Otherwise, the roots will start to suffer as they sit on wet soil longer than needed.
3. Receiving too much or too little sunlight is another reason why plants wilt. There are plants which are intended to stay on a shady place; and if you place them where there is a lot of sunlight, they will surely wither. The same will occur when you put a sun-loving plant on a shady place. If you are using hydroponic systems, make sure you only give your plants the appropriate artificial light requirement.
4. Disease is a tough one. If your plants are stricken by diseases, they may also get infected. There are numerous diseases that may cause plants to wilt; and Fusarium caused by fungi is one of them. Using fungicide is an effective way to control this type of problem. Be very cautious about using this one. Only use it according to the directions stated. Your plants begin to wilt may be because of potassium deficiency or rot. Consider using wilt guard in solving this problem. However, it is always better to prevent rather than to cure. So to keep plants de-stressed and lively at all times, use wilt guard regularly or as directed.
