Unprecedented economic progress in Western Australia means that up-to 17,800 extra skilled workers is likely to be desperately needed every year for the next 10 years, according to a study launched currently by education and training minister Mark McGowan. Several of those skilled workers must come from Australia immigration.
The Beyond the Resources Boom study was commissioned by their State Training Board (STB), and examines Western Australia’s economic growth and the problems faced by the state’s workforce.
Skill shortages are set to keep a function of the labour market, the report concludes, as a result of the power of the economy and the aging workforce. STB chairman Keith Spence said the need could be achieved through a mix of general population growth, competent immigration from interstate and international, and the development of local training initiatives.
Among the top performing professions, with regards to expected annual average employment growth between 2006 and 2016, are advanced mining and construction personnel, plumbers, architectural construction tradespersons, and mining, construction and related labourers. Need for jobs in the mining and construction sectors is quite large and a downturn is considered impossible.
Many of these occupations are about the Australia Skilled Occupation List and the Australia MODL (Migration Occupations in Demand List), which allows people obtaining Australian immigration to extra things.
Financial projections modelled by the record suggest there is unlikely to become a boom-bust situation in the short to medium term. This shows the resource-driven construction boom, which is underpinned by strong expansion in demand from China and history product costs, especially for your state’s major export, iron ore.
Experienced professions currently make-up almost 60 % of the workforce and the report forecasts that general demand for higher skills in Western Australia probably will remain constant as a ratio of the economy. Other skilled professions in demand include managers, managers, professionals, associate professionals, tradespersons and related sales, clerical, transfer and production workers.
