Depending on the specialization of the medical practitioner, there are corresponding types of clinics out there. For instance, clinics ran by clinical psychologist are called psychology clinics; clinics ran by physiotherapists are physiotherapy clinics; clinics that focus on treatments of women who want to get pregnant are called fertility clinics; clinics that provide skin care treatments are dermatological clinics; and so on and so forth. They are called specialty clinics. More often than not, however, when we speak of a medical clinic, most likely we are referring to a general medical practice that is run by one or several practitioners of general medicine. People go to a medical clinic for a variety of reasons, but it is mainly to have their health conditions looked into. It is where they go for consultations, examinations and treatments. Acute minor illnesses and chronic conditions are treated in a medical clinic, so if you are suffering headaches, allergies, injuries, various infections, cuts and bruises, diabetes, high cholesterol or high blood pressure, among other things, you should go there. But medical clinics are not solely about providing a cure or treatment for various illnesses. Patients can also go to medical clinics if they need preventive care for certain conditions. As more and more people become health conscious, they are often found making their way to a medical clinic to have their cholesterol levels and blood pressure levels screened. You can also go to these medical clinics if you are in need of immunization services. You can get your flu shots directly from them. Even tetanus shots and HPV vaccines can be obtained from them. You would also many people going to this health care facility in order to obtain some travel vaccines in preparation for their trip.
Physicals and general check-ups need not be done in large hospitals. But now there is no reason why you couldn’t have your regular checkups done in these clinics. It is no longer even a strange sight to see preoperative physicals being conducted in these medical clinics instead of the hospital where the actual surgery will be performed.
Just because specialty clinics exist does not mean that their services can no longer be found in a medical clinic. Men’s health and women’s health have also become great concerns among medical clinics. The presence of gynecology clinics does not mean gynecology exams are no longer performed in medical clinics. The same is true for fertility conditions and also issues on sexually transmitted diseases. Psychological clinics would probably be some people’s choice when dealing with eating disorders, but there is no reason why they couldn’t go to a medical clinic.
Medical clinics are ran by capable hands and people who are ready to provide whatever service is required of them by patients. The main players would be the doctors or the physicians themselves. At their back, lending support, are the nurses, nursing practitioners, nursing assistants and medical assistants. They are just as capable and as brilliant as the medical practitioners you would come across in the larger medical facilities.
