This combination is comparable with the processor and memory combination in Samsung’s past device the Samsung Galaxy Mega 2 and some other mid-rangers launched by other manufacturers. For the mid-range smartphone, this specification is already regarded fast and lots of RAM memory.
It is assembled with 16 GB internal memory which brings it slightly above the Samsung Grand Prime which is only supplemented with 1 GB of RAM and 8 GB of internal memory. To enhance the storage capacity, Samsung Grand Max is supported with a microSD slot that can read up to 32 GB of external memory. Samsung Galaxy Grand Max is also equipped with Android 4.4.4 KitKat operating system. This is equivalent with operating system with the Grand Prime.
Samsung Galaxy Grand Max arrives with a 5.25 inch IPS LCD display with a HD screen resolution of 1280×720 pixels. It has 282 ppi pixel density. Though it still produces fairly sharp detail, it is also still considered as a standard pixel density. But, the IPS panel of this product renders good viewing angles making the screen viewable and consistent even from extreme angles. Samsung no longer use Amoled screen which is popular for rendering the colors that look quite saturated. It should be competent of rendering the basic feature without any problems like the other products in the Galaxy Grand generation. In fact, it’s already a good advancement made by Samsung in comparison with the Samsung Grand Prime. The Samsung Galaxy Grand Max is proficient of to make up to 16 million colors with multi-touch support that allows the users to navigate the screen using multiple fingers simultaneously. Sadly, Samsung doesn’t provide any protection on the screen so it is quite exposed to scratches. To give protection on the screen, the users can use the screen guard before its first use. One limitation of this screen is a quite high level of reflectivity to sunlight so it is quite hard to be used in direct sunlight.
Concerning the camera, the Samsung Galaxy Grand Max adopts a 13 MP snapper at the rear with LED flash and auto focus to be used for an improved photography and support for recording FHD 1080p videos at 30 fps quality. It is capable of generate an image with maximum resolution of 4128 x 3086. This is a significant enhancement compared to the Grand Prime, which only utilizes 8 MP main camera. It also assists geo-tagging, touch focus, face/smile detection, HDR and Panorama shooting modes which further adding a plus to the specifications of the camera.
In addition to the main camera, it also uses a 5 MP front camera that is competent not only of creating pictures, but also recording videos with 1080p quality. The front camera is supported with 120 degree wide viewing angle lens that can produce wider self-portrait shots. This makes the device compete with the other selfie focused smartphones in its class with its imaging feature. Due to the TouchWiz interface, the Gallery in Samsung Galaxy Grand Max looks different from the default Android Gallery. The Gallery will arrange collection of users’ photos and video by album, time, location, people, groups, and favorites. The users can edit photo, add effects, and directly share the photos and publish them on social media.
Samsung Galaxy Grand Max provides Smartstay feature which is one of the smart features owned by the Korean vendor. Smartstay operates to make the screen remains switched on when the eyes of the user continue to face the screen. When the users look away from the screen then this feature will automatically dim up and turn off the screen. So it really is good to keep the battery usage minimum. Additionally, Samsung also uses some applications such as S translator, S Planner, Clock, TripAdvisor, tasks, memos, and converters. There is an application named Polaris Office to create, view, and even edit Word, Excel, and Power Point documents. This application can also be used to open a PDF file without an option to create or edit a PDF file. Google Maps in Samsung Galaxy Grand Max is available for pre-installed and can be utilized as a tour guide during the trip. Google Maps supports voice navigation functionality so that the users can use it while driving.
Regarding the multimedia, the Samsung Galaxy Grand Max is capable to play video with MP4, WMV, and H.264 formats. It also aids the subtitle display for all formats, including srt. The video player is already supported by Pop Up feature, so the users can watch videos with a smaller size while performing other activities in the Grand Max. The video window can be resized or moved to better suit the users’ need. The Samsung Galaxy Grand Max also supports many audio formats such as MP3, WAV, eAAC + player, and FLAC. The application comes with functionalities like SoundAlive equalizer like most music equalizer features. The feature provides several presets so that the users can freely determine the quality of the sound produced when playing audio.
The Galaxy Grand Max is equipped with using a 2500 mAh Li-Ion battery. It is obviously a negative point for the device. With bigger screen and better quality, compared to the Grand Prime, one should expect nothing than larger capacity of the battery. But in fact, the battery capacity of the Grand Max is slightly lower than that of the Grand Prime. However, the battery of the Grand Max is also removable so the users are allowed to replace the battery with a back-up when they have no time to power up the battery. It is also supported by Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, NFC, and microUSB v2.0 technologies. Ready in the market for a price around Rp 3,500,000 to Rp 4,000,000, the Samsung Galaxy Grand Max will compete with other new products such as Xiaomi Redmi 2S, Lenovo P90, Oppo U3, and also Galaxy Galaxy E7 and E5.
