The Facts About Glue Gun Adhesives

Glue guns are without doubt wonderful contraptions that easily and quickly allow anyone to glue two things together. The glue gun is widely used by a variety of people for a plethora of activities, ranging from being used at home for use in flower arranging or craftwork, being used in flooring or for use in woodwork to being used in a more industrial setting, perhaps for packaging or for electrical work. However, the glue gun would be rendered useless were it not for the wondrous glue that is used in conjunction with the gun. It is this amazing glue that lends itself to being used both within the home setting and the commercial setting, for a number of reasons.

‘Glue sticks’ is the term often used to describe the long sticks of hot melt adhesives that are used within the glue gun. These adhesives work by being inserted into the back of the glue gun, being passed through a heated chamber and thus flowing out of the nozzle at the front of the glue gun in a molten adhesive form. Often, these glue sticks are non-toxic and contain no solvents, thus providing a safe way to glue things together instantly and with a permanent bond.

There are many advantages to using a glue gun with hot melt adhesives. One of the primary reasons for using a hot melt adhesive is the instant bond that it can create between two surfaces. The molten adhesive is applied to a surface straight from the glue gun. Once the two substances to be bonded are pressed together, the heat in the molten adhesive is quickly transferred to the two substances instead. As the adhesive dries, it quickly solidifies, forming a virtually instant bond between the two objects. This quick bonding has numerous benefits, the principal benefit perhaps being that the now bonded objects or surfaces do not need to be left to set before being used for another purpose. One of the other greatest benefits of using hot melt adhesives is that virtually any substance can be bonded using an adhesive from a glue gun.

There are many different types of glue sticks that can be used in a glue gun, depending on the purpose of the bonding. For instance, if the glue stick is being used in a craft glue gun for artwork or craft work, it is possible to purchase coloured glue sticks or glitter glue sticks. These can enhance any piece of art and look fantastic once used. For more industrial purposes, hot melt adhesives can be bought with a range of properties. For example, some adhesives melt quicker than others and some take longer to bond two objects together. The viscosity of different types of adhesives may also vary. These properties may all be useful for different purposes, thus making hot melt adhesives a flexible way to approach bonding. Without a doubt, hot melt adhesives are wonderful for a wide range of purposes and there is no doubt that everyone will be able to find the perfect adhesive with such a wide range available!
