The Beaches of Portugal

I acknowledge it Im a beach freak. I love visiting shores all over the world because, if you ask me, every beach has its own character, yet, all have that same quality I love the ability to generate instant calm. Thats right, even those difficult, rough beaches together with the waves crashing on the rocks may impress instant calm.

Someone asked me last week if I had to choose only one beach to see, which one could it be? The Algarve in Portugal popped in to my head. Okay, its not just one beach, its a place (the southern most element of Portugal to be exact), however The Algarve is really various, it certainly gives whatever beach will probably fit my mood.

First, only a little geography. Heading west, the western tip of The Algarve may be the end of continental Europe. In reality, in ancient times the area was believed to be the side of the world. So, when youre taking in the sun on the beaches of The Algarve, its fun to only imagine yourself at the edge of the world.

You’ll find more than 100 miles of beaches in the Algarve! Therefore, whatever form of beach-going experience you desire is sure to be found. Beginning on the west coast you will find the shores with large dunes. That translates to some incredible browsing. Try the southern shore, If you desire cove-type shores which are more hidden.

One of my favorite beaches within The Algarve lies south of Lagos on the western coast – Dona Ana, which is really a bunch of coves. Dona Ana is merely the right place to get lost in the sweetness of The Algarve. I could just sit and think all night. And, when Im through sitting, its fun to discover the countless caves and grottos which grace the area.

If youre considering a visit to rest, I absolutely recommend The Algarve, Portugal. Your spirit is going to be glad you made the trip.
