Despite being a relatively new RTS game Starcraft 2 has generated a number of new Starcraft 2 gameplay strategy guides. Quite rightly as the basic strategy guides which can be understood by newcomers trying to understand the game will be useless to the pros looking to advance up hte ladders to become world champion level. Understandably most people who have been attracted to take a first look at the game will need to understand the concept and purpose of the game before they even discover how to use a worm to surprise the zerg basecamp
This first article of the series will briefly discuss basic Starcraft 2 build strategy.
It’s important to understand that Starcraft 2 involves three different races. (not 4 as some of you might have wished for). This includes the fierce Zerg, the dominant Protoss, and the quick-witted Terran.
The most populous race is the Zerg. The Zerg is therefore able to mount a massive and deadly attack. The advances by the Zerg include nails hurled at high velocity, chemicals forcefully thrown into the faces of their enemies and speeding beast.
The Protoss have a very powerful mothership craft which has the power to be able to disguise ALL of its surrounding units and hence are able to launch very successful surprise attacks when least expected. In addition they are able to use their force shield to defend themselves from any advances and attacks by any enemy forces. Watch out for them.
The Terran is the most quick witted and advanced of all three races. Coming as a cross breed of both the Zerga and the Protess they process lots of different abilities and tools of attack mechanisms. I would not advise setting yourself up to attack them until you have gained lots of other experince in the game learning the capabilities of both parent races first. Their mechanized units and scanners can very quickly identify the presence of any attacking forces together with their skills in flamethrower weapons makes them very strong and difficult to attack without warning them. With such a massive and impressive arsenal of weapons the opponent never knows what to expect from the Terran military assault.
This should provide you with a basic understanding of the three races and their capabilities.
Now I’ll briefly discuss how to begin a round of Starcraft2. In Starcraft 2, minerals are the basic currency. There are actually two different types of these currencies and each has a different manner of being collected than the other. The first type of currency is called Crystal and this is the one that is used the most You will start the first round with eight crystal mines close to your base. The second type of currency is called Vespene gas and is used less than Crystal in starcraft2. Vespene gas is just as important as the other form of currency though it is used less that Crystal.
You will start the game with a central building or Nexus. In general the nexus has three important uses. The nexus can serve as a drop off location for minerals, produce workers or allow any building to work much faster.
