For years complaints were heard by Ive about a insufficient Occult fiction portraying Witches really in a contemporary setting. And its true. As much a fan of the style as any reader as a and novelist writing Occult fiction, Im just. But, I’ve discovered if you search carefully, there are impressive jewels expecting finding, books that should be part of your contemporary Occult fiction collection.

To locate these novels my search criteria have been narrowed by me to black urban fantasy novels occur modern times or in the long run. At the least half the rituals, magick, or sorcery employed by the primary character should be predicated on true magickal axioms. The primary character should be human, and the piece maybe not overshadowed by fashionable leagues of skeletons.

Having set these recommendations, I do want to present my first recommendation for must-read Occult fiction. If youve never read Lilith Saintcrows Dante Valentine line you are set for a goody all I will say is!

Saintcrow is best known for the Watcher line, her supernatural love novels, presenting important Witches and their fine adults. However, Dante Valentine is made from a completely different cut of cloth!

There are five books in the collection. The first two, Doing work for the Dead Man Rising and Devil have now been published. The past three novels are scheduled for publication in 2007 and 2008.

Dante Valentine is really a Neocromance, who works for lawyers, elevating the spirits of the dead when wills come into question. She also has a few bounty hunting jobs on the side to help pay her mortgage. Danny is a wise-cracking whirlwind of power with a haunting past that wont quit. Devoted to the Egyptian god Anubis, she entertains Pagan visitors with plenty of motions, spells, and magick.

The collection occurs in the longer term, while the plan races from one large to the next at lightning speed. That is modern Occult fiction at its best, the sort of book you cant put down until it is finished by you. And one youll nevertheless be contemplating months later.

Saintcrow is a master at creating unforgettable characters and deftly plotted books. If youve been looking for great Occult fiction to increase your private collection, this would function as the first collection on your list. You will not be disappointed!
