Discover the Health Benefits & Downsides To Consuming Coffee

The first thing a large number of us do first thing each morning to help us awaken is make a delightful mug of coffee (see Bravilor coffee machine), whilst most of us depend on several caffeine fixes to see us through the day. Together with helping you stay alert, caffeine is also drank by those struggling with depressive disorders or anxiety as it is seen to provide us with the energy we need to deal with the day. Yet, what many do not understand is that due to coffee making more hormones it pumps us with adrenaline which in-turn can cause more stress and anxiety.

For those of you who are reliant on multiple cups of coffee, it may be worth writing a coffee diary to keep track of the amount of cups you are consuming per day. By doing so, you are likely to see a pattern of when and perhaps why you are drinking coffee as such frequent intervals. By writing a coffee diary, you will also be able to determine whether it is time for you to cut down on your coffee intake, or perhaps even quit altogether.

It is understandable just why so many people have coffee in their day-to-day lives and how many have become addicted to it, especially with so many added extras for an enhanced taste (see vending whiteners). This isn’t surprising to learn when it helps to elevate our mood. This occurs due to caffeine containing the stimulant Trimethylxanthine. Caffeine is known for its brain stimulating qualities to create the neurotransmitter dopamine by inhabiting the brain’s adenosine receptors. Adenosine is what assists us in wanting to sleep, yet the adenosine receptors cannot distinguish between caffeine and adenosine.

Dopamine on the other hand allows our mood to feel uplifted, diminishing any feel of depression temporarily. Research has shown that coffee drinkers are less inclined to suffer from depression or Alzheimer disease than non-coffee drinkers. This may be down to caffeine increasing the brain’s activity and adrenaline production, making you more alert.

Coffee has many good after effects from drinking, yet there are downsides too – such as the likelihood to become addicted as well as the dreaded adrenaline wearing off, causing cortisol to build up resulting in your energy levels crashing. If this happens too regularly, the cortisol builds up and can cause the following health related problems; anxiety, fatigue, nervousness, low immunity and irritability. This is why as with everything coffee should be consumed in moderation.
