Cloned Plants and Hydroponics Systems

Cloning is not a modern technique and does not necessarily require a state-of-the-art laboratory. The process of cloning can easily be understood and done even without an advanced degree in biology or genetic engineering. People who have very little formal education in science can easily perform cloning. For many thousands of years since the invention of agriculture, farmers have been cloning plants using simple methods. In fact, nature has been cloning organisms for several billions of years since the first single-celled organisms developed asexual reproduction. To put it simply, cloning is an asexual process that allows for the reproduction of new generations of organisms with identical genetic make-up among themselves and to their parents. Organisms that are cloned have the same exact genetic information as their progenitors.

Cloning plants is relatively easy compared to cloning animals. The vegetative body components of plants can be cut and grown into new fully grown plants. On the other hand, the undifferentiated and continually growing cells of plants such as those found in root tips are also ideal for cloning. However, other vegetative and fully mature parts such as stems may also be used for this purpose. Removing a plant callus or undifferentiated part and planting it directly on a growth media is the simplest method of cloning a plant. Some species of plants such as cassava can be cloned easily by cutting their stems and cultivating them in a growth media such as soil or hydroponic media. The seedlings usually develop within a few days or a few weeks. New and complete plants will eventually grow.

However, it should be noted that not all species of plants are easy to clone. Some species of plants require high-tech and specialized methods for them to be cloned successfully. Some plants that have high agricultural and horticultural value oftentimes need special care and attention. Some of the most desirable plants for cloning are those that have high crop yields, high resistance to disease, have excellent aesthetic value and very rare. Many of the highly desirable plants are rare and do not easily reproduce. More often than not, the only effective way of reproducing these plants is through the process of cloning. Using hydroponic systems are typically the best cultivation method for reproducing cloned plants.

TIP! If your garden space is limited, try a dwarf variety of your favorite fruit tree. While many city lots especially have small gardens, it’s so easy to find some room for these tiny little fruit trees.

Using hydroponic systems is the ideal way of cultivating plants indoor. Some varieties or species of plants may require precise amount of nutrients, minerals and hormones for proper development. The situation can be particularly tedious for some cloned varieties. Another main advantage of hydroponic systems is that they can be set up in such a way that the growth media can be made sterile, preventing plant infections. The growth and development can be precisely controlled and monitored. The consumption of water and nutrients is very efficient when it comes to hydroponic systems.
