Choosing the right keyboard

The ability to play music has always been highly prized. But not everyone has the ability to play music. The piano, and more recently the electronic keyboard, seems like probably the hardest instrument to learn to play, out of all of them.

Fortunately, there are now ways to learn how to play such an instrument without the torture of “traditional” and, dare I say it, boring!, lessons. For anyone who dreads the sound of a metronome, accompanied by the strident voice of a teacher who has forgotten what it’s like to be a beginner, the thought that learning can be fun might seem a bit unlikely.

But there is a new breed of electronic keyboard that bypasses the traditional “tutor” style of teaching and uses modern and clever methods to instill learning directly into your brain – and more importantly, your fingers.

Keyboards such as the Casio and Yamaha brands offer various learning enhancements which take the tedium out of the process. Such electronic keyboards as the like here, make it easier to learn at home without the stress. Note that they don’t guarantee that you will learn quickly, because it’s still up to you to do some work, but they are patient teaches which will repeat the same lesson over and over again, as many times as you need.

Those of us with children, in particular, may also be glad that they usually come with a headphone socket to keep the practice stages a little bit more bearable. That’s pretty important if you’re trying to concentrate on a work call and your little darling insists on practicing playing “forte”.

One thing that’s always worth considering is the weight of the keyboard, because if it’s very heavy, it may be difficult for a child to carry to and from school, if they’re also having music lessons there. Fortunately there are may different styles and sizes available to suit pretty much any age group, so it pays to take a little bit of time to find out what’s best suited to your particular situation.
