Algarve Temperature and Climate Soundbites

The Algarve temperature is one of the highest in Europe with plenty of sunshine even in winter. Rainfall is quite low and falls mainly in the winter months. In the summer rainfall is very rare. The length of the south-facing coastline is approximately 155 kilometres. Beyond the westernmost point of Cape St. Vincent it stretches a further 50 kilometres to the north. The coastline is notable for picturesque limestone caves and grottoes, particularly around Lagos, which are accessible by powerboat.

The Climate in Carvoeiro in January and February has a temperature range of between 9 and 16 degrees celcius and in June and July average temperatures are within the range of 18 and 28 degrees celcius. There are 6 hours of sunshine per day in December and January and this increases peaking at 12 hours in July.

In the western Algarve temperatures are generally cooler in the day in summer and warmer in winter than in the eastern Algarve. At night the west is warmer in the winter than the eastern Algarve and in the summer cooler. This is caused by the moderating effect of the Atlantic ocean.

The Praia da Luz climate in November and December has temperatures between 8 and 19 degrees celcius where as in July and August average temperatures increse to between 17 and 29 degrees. Lagos is an ancient maritime town with more than 2,000 years of history. The name Lagos has a Celtic origin and is derived from the word Lacobriga.
