After School Extravaganza
My daughter, who is in third grade and just loves going to school in her pink flip flops, came home on the last day of school and announced that she wants to have an after school party with her friends. I dragged my feet for as long as I could because I knew that this would involve some planning and a lot of effort on my part, but I knew that I was being an awful mom, so eventually I gave in.
“What do you want to do?” I asked her. The answer involved pulling on rubber flip flops and heading out to the store to gather supplies so that we can do a craft or two, some pizza and a slip’n’slide water activity. I tried to gear myself up for the fun to come. So, after the kids were in bed or the night and my rhinestone flip flops were safely tucked away in the baskets near the garage, I got on the computer to try and find some ideas. Family Fun is always one of my first go to sites for such things. They always have great ideas. They do fun things like decorate women’s flip flops and paint kids flip flops. And everything they do always turns out very cute.
Family fun did give me a couple of ideas and I wrote down an action plan. Once all the girls had arrived in their pink flip flops, I had them come in the kitchen for some madlibs while I made pizza for lunch. Once lunch was cleared away, we made some summer reading bookmarks and graduation hats out of chocolate for dessert. Then the fun really began. All of the girls slipped back into their beach flip flops and ran outside for some games. After the slip’n’slide was set up all of the red flip flops and white flip flops and pink flip flops ended up in a big pile while the girls ran and jumped down the slip’n’slide and then ran back up the hill for more. It was a great party, but I must admit to being a little bit tired.
