Yellowstone was created as national park in March of 1872. Although elements of the park have been in Montana and Idaho Yellowstone is mainly located in Wyoming. The park is well known for the geothermal exercise and the wildlife that use as their homes the park. Yellowstone Park is made up roughly 80% forest and the remainder of the land area is grassland. The park is bigger than Rhode Island and Delaware combined together.

Yellowstone National Park covers a location around 3,472 square miles. This area is made up of ponds, canyons, mountain ranges, and rivers. Yellowstone Lake is one of the greatest elevation lakes. The waters elevation is 7,733 above sea level. The lake is near 400 hundred feet deep and is approximately 87,040 acres in all. In addition, it has around 110 miles of shore line for wild life and travelers to savor. Their focused on the surface of the greatest very volcano on the country called the Yellowstone Caldera. The volcano is known as to be effective because of the many outbreaks during the last two million years. Approximately 50% of the sides geothermal energy is located in Yellowstone because of the continuing volcanic activity. Yellowstone is covered with lava rock from lava flows that happened hundreds of year ago.

The Continental Divide runs through the southwestern the main park. It is a topographic feature that separates the Pacific and Atlantic Oceans water discharge. Some of the rivers sources such as for instance Yellowstone and Snake rivers are near one another but due to the partition the Snake River drains into the Pacific Ocean while the Yellowstone River drains into the Atlantic Ocean thru the Gulf.

Yellowstone National Park sits in the Yellowstone Plateau area and it surrounded by mountain ranges on all four sides. The height of the park is around 8,000 feet above sea level. The nearby mountain ranges level is everywhere from 9,000 feet to 11,000 feet above sea level. The prominent and most visited mountain peak in the park is Mount Washburn that sits at 10, 243 feet above sea level.

Yellowstone National park is considered to be one of the few remaining intact eco systems besides in their state of Alaska. The land is virtually untouched by commercialization and with excellent land for the animals to thrive on is a ideal atmosphere. There are still residents that lived in the region when first investigated by white research groups.
