If you have children, it’s crucial that you consider that your children are responsible for tidying up their own mess. The problem is, many parents get into the habit of cleaning up after their family, which can lead their kids not only to take their parent/s for granted, but to just expect it of them. From the age of 4-5, school teachers expect their class to clean up items such as their toys, books and games from the carpet area. If you think back to when your child would do anything to spend more time with their mum, this can be incorporated into the cleaning duties. By cleaning with your child, you can spend more time with them, whilst also teaching them new skills. Letting your youngest help you clean, may slow down the whole process, but in time your child will begin to clean-up without you having to help, and eventually without a cue.

• Cleaning Can Be Fun, Really It Can!

When we mention cleaning, we don’t expect your child to be polishing the furniture or doing the washing up. We are simply referring to putting items away. By creating a sense of speed and urgency your child may well love the opportunity to be hyper, but always ensure that your child’s safety comes first.

• Dress Up Why You Clean

If your children love dressing up, why not allow them to use their imagination and become a fictional character whilst they clean. Mums can join in too, before you know it, you could be creating your own theatrical show – just don’t forget the purpose of the task.
