Don’t Miss Out On Insulation Grants
October 17, 2012 sarah Uncategorized
Grants for cavity wall insulation and loft insulation are available for UK home-owners of the government’s commitment to cut down CO2 emissions.
Wasted energy in residential properties is considered the number one contributor of CO2. We can create a cleaner environment by insulating the home which also wastes a lot less energy. It also helps the consumer who benefits by having decreased energy bills. Proper insulation can reduce energy bills by up to 25%
The program that delivers these grants is known as CERT (Carbon Emission Reduction Target). The work is carried out by a local company who then puts in a claim to be paid for the work. Grants of up to 100% are available. Most people on a means tested benefit or aged over 70 would normally meet the criteria to have the work done totally free. You can get a grant for cavity wall insulation in Sutton Coldfield and other towns in the county. Grants for loft insulation in Sutton Coldfield and other towns are also available.
The procedure to apply for a grant is straightforward. The customer needs to contact a local company or surveying agency who is involved in this program. The contractor or agency will arrange for a Home Assessor to visit the house to see if it is suitable. The Home Assessor can then advise of what insulation improvements are necessary as well as confirm with you the amount of grant aid you are entitled to.
The recommended standard of loft insulation is 270mm (11 inches). Think about raising the depth of insulation if you have not had your loft topped up over the last 15 years.
The work will be done by your registered installer, if you decide to accept the offer. The majority of jobs are finished within half a day. If you had cavity wall insulation put in, you will be given a 25-year guarantee from the Cavity Insulation Guarantee Agency (CIGA).
As this is a government backed program, there is a high degree of quality inspections when the work is actually completed. This helps to ensure that customers get high quality workmanship. Any company that is unable to meet these quality standards are removed from the scheme.
Different contractors have differing processes to install the insulation. The property owner can chose to have a surveying company undertake the initial inspection. The surveying firm will then recommend the most suitable company in that area to carry out the work. Because a surveying company is invariably independent, the homeowner will get the best recommended product and a local authorised organization best suited to their home. You can search on-line for grants for home insulation in your city.
A new scheme called Green Deal will soon replace the present CERT program. The Green Deal program will cover more energy saving measures, such as boilers, external wall insulation and renewable technologies including solar pv, solar thermal, bio mass, ground source heat pumps. Any grants given under Green Deal are repayable by way of the customer’s electricity bills. CERT grants are not repayable.
Up to March 2012 over 3 million households had benefited by having cavity wall insulation or loft insulation installed says the official report from The Energy Savings Trust.
