Paling Fences: How to Build Your Own
Building paling fences in Melbourne on your own can be a huge challenge. Fortunately, there are step-by-step guidelines to make such task fun and less complicated.
So check out the following steps on how to put paling fences in Melbourne.
1. First, gather all needed supplies: paling, rails, pre-mortised posts, safety gear, power saw, pneumatic nail gun, quick-set concrete, and manual post-hole digger.
2. Dig holes for all posts at every end of fence run. The holes must be at least two meters apart. The ideal hole for a fence with a height of 1.8m or less is 600mm deep. Since the earth works well in supporting posts, do not make the holes bigger than needed. You will also save on concrete if you maintain a correct size of holes.
3. Then position the posts and pour in the concrete. Make sure they are vertical and in line.
4. Run two string lines in between the end of the posts. Run one string line at the top and one at the bottom. This simplifies your task of positioning the remaining posts and keeps them in line and at same height.
5. The span of rails should be at least 3 posts. With a power saw, cut the rails with 45 degree angle on the ends.
6. Slide rails through holes that are mortised. You do so to ensure there is a link formed. Continue with this step until you have put all rails in place.
7. To inspect the height, check along the length of the fence using a paling for measurement. If necessary, shorten the palings. Square top is a standard for palings. If you prefer a more traditional outcome, trim 45 degree corners on top of the palings.
Then make sure you space out the palings in stacks along the line of the fence. You do this to speed up the installing process.
9. Perform nail palings beginning from one end. Before you continue, use a good level to ensure that the initial paling is in line. To simplify this particular step, use a pneumatic nail gun. Never forget to wear your safety gear. Work from the right-hand side of the fence if your dominant hand is the right. Check if the palings are properly aligned after working with every three palings.
To match your newly built paling fence, consider a Merbau decking in Melbourne. This would add aesthetic value to your yard and outdoor gathering would be doubly fun and exciting.
