Tummy Tuck – Exercise and Dieting Can’t Do it Alone

October 11, 2012 robot Beauty

I had been losing weight very nicely, and was working out often. My physician told me I was adding years to my life, which is always a good thing, right?

Then one day I was at the store and a little girl turned to her mother to ask if I was growing a baby in my stomach, and after that I knew something had to be done concerning the stubborn kangaroo pouch on my midsection. So I asked my regular doctor to refer me to a cosmetic surgeon who could talk to me about abdominoplasty in Barrington. I did have quite a bit of loose skin, so the surgeon thought I was a good fit for the procedure, and I’d even get rid of some fat cells too. It is possible to combine a tummy tuck with liposuction, but in my situation he felt this was unnecessary. The physician liked that I was working out and was fit, and that I had great skin tone which makes for a successful surgery. It was also good news to him that I do not smoke. Smokers have to quit a couple of weeks before the surgery if they want to have it.

In addition, the surgery removed some terrible stretch marks. Like nearly everyone who gets this procedure done, my fat and loose skin was right below my belly button. The doctor was able to eliminate the excess skin from the region that had stretch marks. Unfortunately this does not always work for some people.

The procedure left a little scar, but it’s faded now and my clothes cover it anyway. I was walking around the following day, although I had to avoid heavy lifting for a couple of weeks. It also took a week or two for the bruising to go away plus a few more for the swelling to go down.

But I believe the results made the procedure worthwhile. And the physician tells me that my abdomen will be firmer and flatter for many years. Nobody can promise me that my skin will not sag when I’m old, but I look fantastic right now.
