Things To Remember When Taking Citalopram

The exact cause of clinical depression is unknown, and it can happen to any individual, for no no reason, however, in a number of cases, it is triggered by a traumatic life event like a death of a loved one, disease, or relationship problems. Many doctors also believe it is a result of chemical changes in the brain, which underlines why treatment for clinically significant depression requires consuming medications that deal with these chemical changes.

Neurons in the brain release several chemicals, known as neurotransmitters, and these activate certain receptors which then set off several functions controlled by the brain. One of these neurotransmitters is serotonin, which is known to control the activity of other neurotransmitters in the brain. If serotonin is decreased, other neurotransmitter systems act in erratic ways. Antidepressant medications just like citalopram raise the volume of circulating serotonin available in the brain to help manage symptoms.
