How To Identify Scabies Symptoms And What You Can Do About This

Identifying scabies symptoms is not a skill that most of us are born with, unless of course we have experienced these little insects before. Scabies, also known as mites, are known to infest people causing certain definable conditions. A mite is a microscopic insect that makes its way into the outer layer of the skin.

The mites that do survive are able to lay eggs in your skin which will later hatch out causing a larger infestation. Although it is true that infestations do not always occur, it is still possible depending upon certain conditions. It is important to note that the only way to get scabies is to be in contact with a person that has this condition, specifically with your skin next to theirs for an extended period of time.

Even though the primary symptom is intense itching, the first time a person is infested with mite, it will not cause itching for around two weeks. However, even though there is no itching, the person is still able to pass the mite to someone else.

In other words, that person is contagious for infesting others. Once they are in your skin, your body’s immune system will begin to become compromised. What happens next is an allergic reaction to the scabies in your skin which is experienced as severe itching. As you can see, people may not even know that they are spreading scabies to others during the initial 14 day period. Your recovery may not always go smoothly and, like with most diseases, you may develop complications. The major symptom of a scabies infection is extreme itching. This is the body’s allergic response to the invasion of the mites. The itching can become so intense that it drives people to scratch the rash until they develop cuts in their skin. When that happens, a bacterial infection may occur. Impetigo is a bacterial infection that can be the result of this damage to the skin. It turns the skin red, thick, and scaly. As a result of a bacterial infection, you will have to take a course of antibiotics to get rid of it, along with the meds your doctor prescribed for the scabies itself.

Scabies infestations can occur for a variety of reasons and based upon certain factors and environmental circumstances. Individuals that are more likely to become plagued by scabies may reside in a prison, or even a nursing home where it is considered to be cleanly. The threat of getting scabies is greatly enhanced in areas where overcrowding is the norm and person-to-person contact is much more likely. Another location that is prime for the spreading of scabies are developing countries. Typically, more than one relative is afflicted by scabies infestations in these regions. Scabies can actually spread very easily from person to person as they can survive on items that everyone touches all the time.

The symptoms of scabies is such that it is nearly impossible for someone to have them and leave them untreated. It is the extreme itching that only becomes worse that would seem to preclude totally ignoring the condition. Bacterial infections will definitely occur if the scabies are not treated; this is a secondary reaction to the infestation. If you scrape your skin, this opens the doorway for bacterial infections to occur. It is important, if you have scabies, to seek medical attention as soon as possible to get this cleared up.
